Genre characteristics - This music video genre is country pop, the singers both walk around singing while playing the guitar that's around their neck. There is no dancing or anything involved, just follows the singers walking around stairs looking calm while singing.
Close ups of the artists? - There are a lot of close ups of both of the singers especially of Justin when he first puts on the guitar in the elevator. This is so we can see the passion and determination from Justin when he puts on the guitar. There is also close ups of both Justin and Chris when they are stood together with guitars singing, the camera also circles them close up almost as if they are being locked up so they can sing together. There is close up shots of the artist while behind them you can see they are going up or down in the elevator. Although there are close up shots there isn't loads because the stairs and lifts and everything else in the background is being shown, also shots of the other people
when they join in are taken when they help Justin sing.
Notion of looking? - Although the camera is in front of them sometimes the artists never look at the camera even though its constantly following them around. Justin often looks down at the guitar while he passionately plays the guitar and also sings. When Justin and Chris are opposite each other in the lifts they don't look at each other but instead look at the side and sing loudly. When Chris then goes down the stairs, Justin then looks at Chris. This is almost as if Justin doesn't want to look at Chris from a distance but in fact wants to see him from close up. Justin and Chris then use different lifts so they are on the same level and can approach each other. When they are on the same floor they walk towards each while they still carry on playing the guitar and sing. Also as the camera circles them from close up while they are together they still don't focus on the camera but they look at the guitar and sing but then eventually have a glimpse at each other while they sing together. Also, Justin counts all the other people above him on the stairs in and then they help him sing, the people above then look down at Justin and Chris in the middle while they sing. After they carry on walking beside each other but go back to looking at their guitars while singing. However, at the end they stand on top of some stairs and look at each other again, they sing the final line of the song and then walk off together off the camera shot. The camera work is special because continuous motion has been used which means it has been recorded in one take. This implies that the camera is following Justin's entire journey and will follow him until the music video has finished.
Relationship between lyrics and visuals - As the lyrics are being sung Justin and Chris get closer and closer together. At the start of the lyrics Justin is on his own creating beats and as the song progresses and hits the mid way point, Justin and Chris then meet together while they are surrounded by lots of people above them. Also when Justin and Chris are singing the line "I cant help myself" Justin then counts down which allows all the other people to help him sing the song. The line of the song obviously means something else but its interesting that the other people around him help him sing the song. In this way the lyrics have a big part in the visuals and everything else that is happening in the video. The lyrics are contradicted by the visuals, this is because the lyrics do not match the visuals and they totally contradict the visuals. For example, through out the song, the lyrics aren't actually illustrated and its just Justin walking around with the guitar and then meeting Chris. Although the lyrics are powerful and have a deep meaning, the visuals do not illustrate the lyrics.
